The President visits Marian House, Ballindine

President Mary McAleese visited
Marian House, a home for
Alzheimer patients,
in Ballindine,
on Sat. 28th May '11.

The Western Alzheimer Association was founded in 1995 when John Grant, CEO of Western Alzheimers Association,
saw at first hand the problems facing Carers of Alzheimer Patients in their own homes.
The Foundation built a Purpose Built Centre in Ballindine Co. Mayo.
It takes care of Alzheimer patients for two weeks or so at a time to give a break to their carers.
They also provide respite for carers in the patient's own homes.

John Grant's witty remarks make President Mary McAleese laugh.

A packed markee had waited in anticipation for the arrival of the president.

Mrs. O'Connell presented the president and her husband, Senator McAleese,
with two rings, representing "The Story of Ireland" made by Blacoe Jewellers.

Everyone enjoyed the occasion.
Thanks to Western Alzheimers for the music, delicious food
and the chance to meet the president
